14 Celebrities Who Should Write Memoirs

Writer's picture: Demi LynchDemi Lynch

As a 'neurospicy' individual, I tend to go through a stream of fixations. Several years back it was puzzles. Months later it was Lego. There even was a brief period where Animal Crossing was my fixation of choice.

However, I think maybe, just maybe, celebrity memoirs might be my new unofficial official obsession.

Exhibit A#

Over the summer break I read Cher's memoir. Actually no that would be an understatement, I inhaled that book, digesting every word and story. In the weeks since finishing the audiobook, I've dug through the Cher archives and lapped up every bit of Cher content available on YouTube - all thanks to her memoir.

Exhibit B#

Okay so I may or may not have read a few memoirs in the last year. Let's see there was Paris Hilton's memoir, Julia Fox's memoir, RuPaul, Heather Gay, Michelle Brasier, okay maybe more than a few. A lot. A lot, a lot, a a lot!

Exhibit C#

In addition to reading all the celebrity memoirs, I've also been binge-listening to podcasts that talk about celebrity memoirs, aka the delightful 'Celebrity Memoir Book Club.' So basically when I'm not reading celebrity memoirs, I'm listening to others talk about celebrity memoirs.

Considering the evidence, I think it's safe to say I am OBSESSED with celebrity memoirs. But sadly I fear they'll come a day where I've read all the celebrity memoirs. Not enough famous people are writing about their lives. I know its not the biggest issue right now but in my tiny fixation bubble it is a big concern for my wellbeing. Therefore, using my expertise in the matter, I have cultivated a list of celebrities that desperately need to write memoirs. Maybe if I put this message out into the universe these people that do not know I exist will listen to me and FINALLY write their memoir.

Katie Holmes

As soon as I started brainstorming this list, Katie Holmes was the first person that came mind. Since her divorce from Tom Cruise in 2012, she hasn't said much about their marriage - likely to protect her daughter from Cruise and the Church of Scientology. But now that their daughter is an adult - will Holmes finally be able to speak her truth? Will Tom Cruise finally get called out for his BS?

Sasha Colby

If my favourite drag queen's favourite drag queen released a memoir, I would scream, cry and scream some more. This woman has lived such an extraordinary life and I would love to know how she became such an icon in not only the drag community but also in gay pop culture. From being raised in a conservative Jehovah's Witness household to her transition experience as a teen, there's so much to tell for the queen of drag.

Lindsay Lohan

As we all know the party girls of the 2000s are making a comeback. Paris Hilton, Britney Spears and of course Lindsay Lohan. It's been amazing to see Paris and Britney finally share their stories and call out those that wronged them in their early days of Hollywood. So with Lindsay back in the spotlight, making film after film, I can confirm fans would love to see her finally tell her own story in her own words.

Ke Huy Quan

Not enough people know about Ke Huy Quan and his incredible life. From growing up in a refugee camp after escaping Vietnam to becoming a child actor to stepping away from Hollywood but keeping his dream alive for nearly 20 years. This man has such a fascinating life and more people need to hear his story.

Taylor Swift

There were speculations Taylor Swift was releasing a memoir last year, but alas our girl has been busy with a little thing called The Eras Tour. Well maybe, just maybe, after she's gotten some well deserved rest, Taylor might like to write us a memoir. One could only dream!

Beyonce

I'm being greedy, I know, but if we're gonna have a Taylor Swift memoir, you best believe Imma also ask for a Beyonce memoir. Because despite being one of the most famous women in the world, we don't really know much about Beyonce and her personal life.

Jennifer Coolidge

We're currently living through the Golden Age of Jennifer Coolidge and I want more of her. Of course it would be fascinating to read about her rise and fall of fame, but I mostly just want more Jennifer Coolidge antidotes. This woman must have a million funny stories in her vault. Also imagine listening to her narrate the audiobook - yes please, sign me up!

Mary-Kate and Ashley Olsen

Now before any of you come for me and say, 'don't they already have a book,' - yes they do, two in fact, but those were written when the duo were in their late teens and early twenties. Plus those books barely scratched the surface of their personal lives - they mostly just contained interviews and behind the scenes photos from their popular TV shows. Now the women have since stepped away from acting and become successful fashion designers. It would be so fascinating to see them dissect their time in the spotlight and how they've continued to maintain private lives away from the public eye.

Dakota Fanning

Speaking of child actors , Dakota Fanning. She was everywhere when I was a kid. Yet despite growing up in Hollywood from such a young age, she never publicly experienced the stereotypical 'child star downfall' of drugs, alcohol and partying. It would be interesting to see how she avoided all that. Plus considering she and her sister Elle Fanning are set to star in movie adaptation of Pari Hilton's memoir, maybe this project will inspire Dakota to share her story to the world.

Angelina Jolie

Back in 2003 Angelina Jolie wrote a book about her visits to Africa, Cambodia, Pakistan and Ecuador as a Goodwill Ambassador. In the years since she's continued to use her platform to advocate for refugees, women's rights and children education. I feel like so many people forget about Angelina's humanitarian efforts. A memoir on her life would be a great way to educate people about her philanthropy work, highlight her incredible career as an actress and director, and possibly even spill the tea on her ex-husband Brad Bitt - shame the bastard, call out his BS.

Susan Sarandon

Similar to Angelina Jolie, yes of course we want to know more about the Hollywood side of Susan Sarandon. Like what was it like working on the cult classics Rocky Horror Picture Show and Thelma & Louise. But I mostly want to learn about her years of activism. Ever since her early days in high school, Susan has been a notable activist. She protested the Vietnam War, advocated against the genocide in Gaza and was involved in the AIDS quilt project. According to reports, she has even accumulated a "sizeable FBI file" from her years in activism. See now who wouldn't want to read a book about that!

Michelle Yeoh

I have the biggest celebrity crush on Michelle Yeoh. Actually I think the whole world is crushing on Michelle Yeoh right now. I know I'm not the only one that would love to know more about her rise to fame in Hong Kong and America, and how she navigated racial stereotypes in Hollywood.

Bob The Drag Queen

She's a podcaster, TV host, comedian, media personality and of course she's toured with Madonna - honestly it would feel wrong for Bob not to write a memoir about her extraordinary life and career. Plus it would be incredibly fascinating to hear about her years of political activism, experience on RuPaul's Drag Race, her relationship with other queens in the drag community and her journey to sobriety.

Lady Gaga

We've had several people write biographies about Lady Gaga but I'm gonna need to see a memoir written by Gaga herself. Her documentary, 'Gaga: Five Foot Two,' gave us such an insightful look into her mostly private life. Sorry not sorry, I'm a greedy Little Monster and I want to know more about her.
