Lizzo has listened to her fans and changed the lyrics to her latest song, ‘GRRRLS.’

The track was heavily criticised online after it featured a ableist slur.

“It has been brought to my attention that there is a harmful word in my new song GRRRLS,” says Lizzo, “let me make one thing clear: I never want to promote derogatory language.”

Lizzo says she understands “the power words” and how they can negatively affect people.

Disability advocates have praised Lizzo for her willingness to open up to her mistakes and learn from them.

Pleasure activist and author of ‘Black Disability Politics’ Sami Schalk says this is "how you do accountability."

"The derogatory term is out of the song so go stream Grrrls & love on Lizzo extra today,” says Sami, “she’s modelling how to get it right."

Disability activist Hannah Diviney says Lizzo is a true ally for listening and changing the lyrics.

"Thank you so much for hearing us Lizzo and for understanding that this was only ever meant gently and being open to learning," says Hannah, "it honestly means the world."
